Leviticus 12:8
And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
They say it was only in modern medicine that a sterile environment was encouraged in dealing with the ill. Doctors of the middle ages didn't see the need to sterilize surgical knives or even wash their hands between patients. I guess they carried the motto, " What you can't see, can't hurt you." It is too bad these ancient physicians failed to turn to the best medical journal ever, the Bible! They would have read the importance God put on cleanliness and even quarantines. The Lord was very specific about what the Children of Israel should eat, how they should deliver babies and especially how to deal with leprosy.
I should pay more attention to the laws God placed on his chosen ones for their own good and for mine. I am thankful, however, that I have been washed clean forever by the cleansing wave, the Blood of Jesus. I was unable to bring a lamb of my own righteousness. I had not enough good things to pay for my sins. Christ didn't demand of me a dove or a pigeon to pronounce me clean. Jesus, the Lamb, made atonement for me with his precious, perfect blood. Then He ,as High Priest Eternal, pronounced me CLEAN! He lifted me up out of the miry clay! He made me whiter than snow! Praise Him!
Are You Washed in the Blood?
Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Refrain
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Refrain
When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Refrain
Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
O be washed in the blood of the Lamb!
Refrain
Elisha A. Hoffman, 1878
