What comes to mind when you hear the word "work". To some it is a dirty word! To some it is a lifestyle. To some it is unattainable in times of unemployment. To some it is a blessing. To me, it's my word of the year. "Work" is the word that I will use to treasure hunt in my devotions daily to see if I see the word "work" or see the idea or action of "work" transpiring. I remembered my momma having a devotional word of the year when I was a child. I think there may have been one year where she looked for the word "love" for example as she read thro
ugh the Bible. When she would happen upon the word, she would circle it with a heart. I really liked that idea and I have been trying it for a few years. Having a key word in your Bible reading allows you to stay alert and focused on the scripture you are reading, because you don't want to miss a word!
I actually ask the Lord to show me the word he would have me study each year. It is quite difficult to decide on a specific word and I haven't always chosen an easy word to find. My favorite word study was in 2005, and it was on the word morning. What an opportunity the Lord gives us each morning to start the work day fresh.

s finding an icon that I can mark in my Bible when I find the word. It has to be as simple as a check mark to make. When "morning" was the key word, this passage, Ps 139:9-10 "If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.", was the inspiration for the little flying bird I marked next to the verse where the word "morning" was written. One year the word was "mind", so the icon was a question mark...and so on. Now, I must admit, I haven't any ideas on what to mark with the word, "work". If any of you can think of one, let me know.
I hope to post as many of the passages about "work" that I can on the blog. Meanwhile, I better practice what I preach and get to WORK!!!

You are brave, Bec, to have the word "work" as your devotional word for the year, and braver still to tell that it is your word! You might get yourself into trouble. You know there is always much work to be done around here! As a matter of fact, I am now looking at this blog at 12:03 a.m. because I have been working so much today that i haven't had time to do so before now. Well, I have to admit it wasn't all work! Had to throw in a little decorating, you know.
ReplyDeleteMy word for the year is gift, or giving; what God has or does or will give or what I can give. Our theme, as you know is "God is able to give thee much more than this." That is what I am looking for this year. Maybe I will draw a present beside the verse. You could draw a broom or a mop or a mule pulling a plow or Anna Grace and Olivia pulling a wagon with wood in it or Kevin cutting the grass ... you will come up with something I'm sure of it!
I need to go get rest so I can get up and yes WORK tomorrow. I thank the Lord for the opportunity and the strength He GIVES me to work!
how bout a hammer ~Sarah
ReplyDeleteYes, Sarah, that is what it's going to be. A hammer. Kevin suggested the same thing and I mad my first hammer marks this morning. It was really easy to do! Thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteMom, Just so you know... Decorating is creativity and Creativiy is work. The first work in the Bible was God "Creating" the World. Then on the 7th day he rested from his "Work" of creating. (Gen.2:2-3) Isn't that great. We are actually getting a lot of work done, huh? LOL!
